NCSA Closes Cybersecurity Awareness Month with the Tekana Online Cyber Challenge

The National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) closed Cybersecurity Awareness Month by hosting the Tekana Online Cyber Challenge at the CyberHub on Friday, 30 October 2026. The event brought together young cyber enthusiasts for a live hackathon that tested their problem-solving, creativity and cybersecurity skills.

Participants competed in a series of Capture the Flag (CTF) challenges. Each challenge was designed to test how quickly and effectively they could solve problems under time pressure. The tasks were modelled on real cyber incidents, so participants had to think and respond the way cybersecurity professionals do when systems are under threat.

The challenge is part of NCSA’s wider Tekana Online campaign, which promotes safe online practices and builds cybersecurity awareness across Rwanda. Through hands-on events like this one, NCSA aims to find and develop young talent who will help protect the country’s growing digital ecosystem.

The day ended with an awards ceremony honouring the top performers. Team Exploit Leads took first place, beating strong competition with their speed, teamwork and technical skill. The ceremony celebrated the skill, persistence and creativity that all the participants showed throughout the competition.

They came, they saw, they hacked, and they showed that Rwanda’s cybersecurity future is in capable hands.
