On Wednesday 25th March 2026, NCSA joined UGHE’s Lunch & Learn program to deliver an awareness session on Rwanda’s Personal Data Protection and Privacy Law.

Over 70 faculty members specializing in healthcare education engaged in discussions on the importance of data protection—particularly in the health sector, where sensitive personal data is routinely processed.

Key topics included:

• The role and duties of the Data Protection and Privacy Office

• Responsibilities of Data Protection Officers

• Categories and processing of sensitive personal data

• Lawful bases for processing personal data

The session concluded with a Q&A on compliance in health facilities and research projects, underscoring the critical need to safeguard personal data in Rwanda’s healthcare sector.
