NCSA launches cybersecurity and data protection awareness campaign

This October, The National Cyber Security Authority and its partners will conduct the annual Tekana Online cybersecurity and data protection awareness campaign to educate the public on online safety and cybersecurity best practices.

The campaign, which will run from 1st-31st October, will educate individuals, families and organizations of best practices to defend themselves against cyber threats, such as online fraud; inappropriate content; ransomware and phishing.

The cybersecurity awareness month is a global initiative that calls on the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity.

In Rwanda, as more citizens have adopted the use of the internet and online services, prioritizing cybersecurity awareness has become a critical collective responsibility.

Most financial transactions take place online, business information is primarily stored and sent digitally, our children learn and grow through the internet and the use of online services has necessitated the protection of rights in relation to one’s personal data processing.

With an increasing number of us relying on the internet and online services for our daily activities, it is more important than ever to be aware of how to stay secure within the digital domain. By participating in the national Tekana Online campaign, we can empower ourselves and our communities to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.

The cybersecurity and data protection awareness campaign will be delivered across the country through traditional media, town hall meetings, online events and social media platforms. To keep up with the campaign and take part in the discussion, visit the hashtag #TekanaOnline on all social media platforms.

Campaign key messages:

1. Protect your money

2. Protect children online

3. Protect your business

4. Protect your privacy online
