NCSA, MINICT, MIGEPROF and NCDA launch 3 month campaign to protect children online
On June 16th 2023, the National Cyber Security Authority, Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion and National Child Development Agency Rwanda, launched a 3-month campaign to protect children's rights online.
The launch took place during Rwanda's celebration of the Day of the African Child, which is celebrated by African Union (AU) member states every year.
This year’s theme, selected by the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) is: “The Rights of the Child in the digital environment” which the Government of Rwanda equally adopted for this event.
Some of the campaign’s initiatives are:
Dissemination of messages to raise public awareness about children’s rights in the digital environment and their protection through social media, mass media, and promotional tools;
Conducting dialogues with teachers, and children on child rights in the digital environment and Child online protection in schools
Organizing of workshops with media owners/editors and YouTubers to discuss how media can contribute to the promotion and protection of child’s rights in digital cyberspace;
Production of posters, leaflets, videos, and booklets with messages on how to keep children safe online and ensure their dissemination;
Dissemination of guidelines on keeping children safe online through mass media, social media, and meetings.
