Tekana Online campaign empowers Green Hills Academy with online safety best practices
As part of the ongoing national Tekana Online cybersecurity and data protection awareness campaign, on Wednesday 29th October, the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) and partners led an impactful awareness event at Green Hills Academy.
The session, held during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, brought together students and staff, creating a dynamic forum for dialogue and learning around critical online safety practices. The event empowered the school community with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world safely and confidently.
Engaging presentations equipped participants with smart habits for the digital age. Key topics included:
Guarding Personal Data: Students learned the importance of avoiding sharing their location and other sensitive personal information online.
Critical Thinking Online: Emphasis was placed on being cautious with links, thinking carefully before posting any content, and staying alert during all online interactions.
Combating Cyberbullying: The session underscored the importance of not engaging in or encouraging cyberbullying and being mindful of one's digital footprint.
Strengthening Account Security: Practical advice was shared on securing accounts, including the use of strong, unique passwords and the critical step of enabling multi-factor authentication.
Representatives from the NCSA urged the students to be vigilant and responsible digital citizens. They warned against the risks of cybercrimes and encouraged the school community to seek support if they are ever targeted online.
This initiative is a key part of the broader #BaMaso and #TekanaOnline campaigns, which aim to empower all Rwandans with the knowledge to stay safe online, fostering a more secure and inclusive digital future for everyone.
