Update Your Device Software Regularly

Applying regular and immediate software updates is essential to secure your information and your electronic devices. Software updates fix newly discovered bugs and security holes that leave your devices vulnerable and exploitable targets to malicious actors.
The process of updating device software depends on the operating system you are using. In this topic, we will be providing information on these procedures when related to desktops, laptops and mobile devices.
 
Windows OS (Desktop and Laptop)
  • Make sure your device is connected to the internet (Fiber, Ethernet, WI-FI hotspot, modem, etc.)
  • Select the Start button, go to (Settings)(Update & Security) (Windows Update) (Check for Updates) and click on (Install Now).
 
macOS (Desktop and Laptop)
  • Make sure your device is connected to the internet (Fiber, Ethernet, WI-FI hotspot, modem, etc.)
  • On the main screen click the (Apple icon) → (System Preferences) and on the next page click (Software Update) → (Update Now) or (Upgrade Now).
 
Android (Mobile Device)
  • Make sure your device is connected to the internet (Fiber, Ethernet, WI-FI hotspot, modem, etc.)
  • Open (Settings)(About Phone) → (Check for Updates). If an update is available, an (Update) button will appear. Tap it and then select Install.
  • Depending on the OS, you'll see (Install Now), (Reboot and install), or (Install System Software). Tap whichever one of these options applies.
 
iOS (Mobile Device)
  • Make sure your device is connected to the internet (Fiber, Ethernet, WI-FI hotspot, modem, etc.)
  • Open (Settings) → (General) → (Software Update) → (Download and Install).
  • Enter your Passcode, if prompted, and then read the terms and conditions before clicking (Agree) twice to confirm.
All users are advised to keep the operating systems of their electronic devices up-to-date. It will help to prevent or minimize the risk of information loss or device compromise.
