The Data Protection Office (DPO) is set to observe National Data Privacy Week from January 27–31, 2025, with a focused campaign to raise awareness about the importance of data privacy in today’s digital world.

The theme of the week, "Ensuring Privacy and Safeguarding Personal Data in the Digital Age," emphasizes the need for both individuals and organizations to prioritize the protection of personal information.

Today, personal data fuels an increasing number of businesses through personalized customer experiences, automated marketing messaging, and science-driven insights, which all depend on the quality and volume of your information. Ensuring Data Privacy safeguards your personal integrity, promotes trust in digital interactions, and upholds the fundamental rights of individuals in this increasingly data-driven world.

Why is it important for Rwanda?

As digital transformation accelerates in Rwanda, with increasing adoption of internet services, social media, and e-commerce platforms, ensuring people’s rights are respected in the digital domain has become increasingly important. For citizens, this means understanding their rights as Data Subjects under the Rwanda Personal Data Protection and Privacy Law, enacted in October 2021. For organizations, it involves taking active steps to comply with the law and adopting responsible data management practices.
